“Waltzes through Tangier”

Nov. 2017

Let me sing for you

Let me croon a tune

Yes, let me cry for you

Oh please god, let me try for you

There’s a time and a place

Where my heart never paces

But here I am face to face

With all my thoughts and allegations

We’ll hold out a hand

Lent alone for the martyred man

Who spent hours and weeks

Wielding smiles so to speak

Now he waltzes through Tangier

With rose colored eyes and weary ears

Listening hard for the beast

Who’s raging heart beat he could not keep

Settled down for a time

Now he tells a long tale in a lonely line

So I’m saddled in his shadow

As dead as some holy pharoah

And fastened to my feet

The cold ground I plan to keep

I’ve been fasting now for weeks

In hopes that a god to me will reach

But buried deep beneath that skin,

Was that damned old darling beast again

Still let me sing for you

Let me croon a tune

Let me cry for you

Please god, I’m trying for you
